Was it like silk? No, that phrase is far too hackneyed to describe the divine music I heard that night. It made me think of baby wavelets rippling over a quiet pond, every now and again riled up by a heavier breeze, then settling again as the wind faltered. Then the wavelets came to the end of the pool and emptied into a spring, little more than a trickle. Down hills and through pastures her voice went with the spring, until it became a stream, a creek, a river. It was light and free – yet it was one of the most powerful sounds I’ve ever heard.
Inspiration for this piece: Da Tempeste by G.F. Handel, performed by Julia Lezhneva. Incomparable!
